Brassneck Theatre Company takes a bite from the big apple

Man In The Moon’, a play by West Belfast’s Pearse Elliott, produced by Belfast’s Brassneck Theatre Company, will perform in New York’s Times Square Arts Center from Wednesday 10th to Sunday 28th September.

Described variously as: “A brave and stirring piece of theatre… marvellously engaging,” by the Irish Theatre Magazine; “An hilarious success,” by The Belfast Telegraph and “Funny, fast-paced and unexpectedly poignant,” by Culture NI, this one man show is produced by Belfast’s Brassneck Theatre Company, producers of smash-hit shows, ‘The Sweety Bottle’ and ‘A Night With George’.

Written by acclaimed playwright Pearse Elliott and starring Ciaran Nolan — one of Ireland’s most gifted young actors — this darkly comedic roller-coaster is the tender story of one man’s resolve to overcome the worst that life has to throw at him.

Sean Doran has recently been fired from his dead-end job. To make matters worse, his girlfriend has left him, taking their child, and the bank has just repossessed his house.

And so we find Sean alone by the Half Moon Lake, which although beautiful, is also known as a place of tragedy. Over the course of one moonlit evening, Sean takes us on a soul-searching journey through life, love and death — via his past, present and future.

Brassneck Theatre Company, who are one of Ireland’s leading independent theatre companies, bring this simultaneously hard-hitting and thoughtful piece of theatre to North America, where they believe it will have as much resonance here as it does at home in Ireland, especially with regards to the terrible spectres of suicide and mental health issues.

With inimitable Irish humour, this powerful production opens up the Irish psyche and bares its cultural soul in a rapid-fire evening of entertainment, and in a way never quite seen before in New York.
